MYSTERIA

Created by Jim Caswell, Tim Phillips, Eric Mc Donald, Neil Lindgren and Ken Hallaron

The world of Mysteria, while holding basic similarities to Earth in the fact that it has a sun, gravity and air, looks very different. In this dimension, time moves at a different speed, sometimes on the world itself from hemisphere to hemisphere. The planet's body of water is much larger, covering over 90% of the planet. It also has a magical component that not only separates the continents from casual detection (even from one another), but also seems to draw magic to it like a magnet. As such, three of the land masses have been occupied by different residents who, until recently, didn't know they shared a home.

The Western Island - Zeein Island

When Dragon took his family and left Earth to find a home away from the troubles of the world where they could raise their children in safety, they settled in a dimension where, aside from the lava elves, was free of all life.... or so they thought.

The Eastern Island - Amazon Island

Shortly after the Greek gods returned to Erylusia, the Amazon warriors found themselves in frequent conflict with the tribes around them. While their foes were no match for the fierce females, many of whom were direct decedents of Erylusians themselves, the women knew that the more battles they won, the greater their enemies would grow in number. Rather than annihilate everyone else in Greece, the Amazons decided to find a place where they could live without the interference of men. They found such a place after passing through a magical portal that transported them through time and space to another dimension. Now free to live a life of relative peace, the women continued to hone their battle skills through tournaments. They have been on Amazon Island for hundreds of years but, due to the time shifts from traveling from dimension to dimension, thousands of years have passed on Earth.

The Northern Continent - Avalon²

When Fianna was transported to a parallel dimension, he named it Avalon. This area is populated with people that are reminiscent of ancient Gaelic warriors.

The Southern Continent - Dulling Mire

In the sixth century of the Christian calendar, a mystical war was on the verge of being waged between the great wizard Merlin and the forces of the wizard warlord Delfan. But before the war was able to go to full scale, Merlin cast a spell, which banished them all to a nether realm, never to return. The spell was flawed by a counter-spell cast by Delfan, in which a doorway would be opened between the two realms when one sorcerer proved himself to be superior to them all in battle. The spell cost Delfan his existence, but allowed his evil followers with an out.

Since then, the descendants of those warriors have conducted constant battles between themselves to find who would be the one worthy. The province that they occupied has been a constant war zone, evolving through the centuries. As time went on, their numbers began to dwindle. As such, both soldiers and mates needed to be kidnapped from other dimensions, though the wizards had no clue as to which dimension they were taking from. While the original spell only held the residents of Dulling Mire in the dimension, it failed to keep others from being brought there, and so the tradition of war was able to continue.

One such kidnapping led to the creation of Ravenclaw (formerly known as Dynamo) who was trained under the tutelage of the warlord Grandiff. Dynamo is the only person known to have escaped from Dulling Mire (three times), and is therefore sought after by all of the warlords. After a doorway had been opened by Vision, however, it is believed by the warlords that limited visits to the earth dimension can be achieved.

This was before the truth behind Dulling Mire was revealed, however. When Merlin sentenced the warlord's to Dulling Mire, he was unaware that there were native races, including centaurs on the province the wizards landed. As such, the warlords decided to hunt the centaurs, slowly wiping out the race. In an attempt to save their princess, the centaur clan sent her to earth, where she was united with Ravenclaw and introduced to Dr. Arcanum. Realizing the mistake made by Merlin centuries before, he sent the New Pendragons to save the innocent race and eliminate the warlords once and for all. After an extensive battle, with the wizards fighting as hard with each other as with the Pendragons and centaurs, the heroes managed to defeat the warlords with only a small remnant holding out. Among these wizards, Quagmire has proclaimed himself the final warlord; thus breaking the dimensional barrier.

Once the remnants are imprisoned, most of the Pendragons decide to stay in Dulling Mire to help the centaur race reestablish their way of life, acting as their allies rather than hunters, and serve as guards of the remaining wizards. If needed, they can still return to England to defend their homeland in case of dire emergency, but have decided to leave the daily protection of the domain to the other heroes who call the country home.
