What she didn't realize was that Daniel's good grades in science class were an indicator of his natural affinity for engineering. In his sophomore year of high school, he finally worked out the proper harmonics to create propulsion fields and cobbled together his first "Music Master" synthesizer. By the time the Crusaders reformed in his home town of Denver, Dan was ready to rock 'n roll as the city's newest superhero, Bassline.
When the Crusaders disbanded again, Dan was offered a full ride scholarship to the University of Minnesota, Twin Cities in exchange for becoming the city's private super hero. His time in Minneapolis was tough and he felt trapped by the bureaucracy of being a city employee. So when he was reunited with his fellow Crusader, The Hero, at the end of the semester and was told of the Radio Ranch, he jumped at the chance to get out of his contract and turn to teaching music for the kids. He still loves the idea of strapping on the synthesizer and going out to fight evil or put on a concert, but he's also found that he can be a hero in the classroom as well. In his spare time, he takes classes in education part time at University of Wisconsin la Crosse to become a licensed teacher, as well as hitting some of the local hotspots incognito for some fun.
Personality: In his early days, Bassline was a risk-taker with the immortality complex that is abundant in teenagers. His time in Minneapolis forced him to mature quickly, however, awakening him to the fact that life isn't going to hand you everything on a silver platter just because you're good looking, have a photogenic smile and can play an instrument. He learned that there are people out there that will want to use you for your talent; use you up and spit you out when they've taken everything they can. In spite of this, Bassline still loves to have fun and is more than willing to rock the night away (or other nocturnal activities) if given the chance. The difference now, though, is that he has learned that with great fun comes great responsibility.
Powers/Tactics: Bassline's fighting style is spur-of-the-moment, doing whatever feels right at that point in time. His primary weapon is the Music Master 3000 synthesizer keytar, a weapon capable of projecting harmonics that can do everything from subconsciously changing a person's mood to vibrating walls into dust. In situations where harmonics aren't the key, Bassline also carries an arsenal of martial arts weapons and is a capable hand-to-hand combatant.
Appearance: Daniel Zargood is 6'0 with a "ripped" athletic build ("washboard abs"). His Romani ancestry is most clearly seen in his black hair and dark brown, almost black eyes (when they are not covered by sunglasses). He is very attractive with classic "rock star" good looks, accentuated by his long, flowing hair and muscular build. His current and best known costume was designed as a favor by The Hero when Bassline first joined the Crusaders, with a small tribute to its designer in the color choice of green for the chest area.
Bassline was created, designed and played by Jim Caswell. The artwork was created by James C. Taylor.
