A few months before the Havok Incident in Philadelphia, Clayton Vangor sent a clone of the Hero to infiltrate the Crusdaders. The clone collected genetic material and encephalatic downloads from the Crusaders. However, the clone was killed in the Hero's stead during the Crusader Incident and the genetic material and brain scans remained in cold storage, never having been delivered. Several years later the Crusader DNA was located, and ended up in the hands of at least one Villain Clone. Clones of the Crusaders were grown from the material. The encephalatic scans were tweaked in the same fashion that the first scan of Glenn Ferguson's mind had been tweaked to create the Villain and then uploaded into the corresponding clone. The evil Crusaders, the Saracen, were born.

After they were captured by the Champions of Justice, mechanisms within their bodies caused the clones to melt. It is a safe bet that anyone who arranged such a failsafe undoubtedly has the means to recreate the Saracen.
