Complications:
Mysterious Origins - In spite of the information that the Incantorum Grimoire provides him, it refuses to share its origins with him, which frustrates Paul.
Secret Passion - Paul is fascinated by the physics of space and time and is interested in finding out why they don't work the same way for him.
Background: Paul Doherty has been cursed. Odd things seem to happen either to him or near him: lost keys found in his dresser that were not his keys, but his neighbor's; doing laundry and having extra left socks in his hamper; clocks resetting themselves to different times; showing up to work and hour late, only to be 15 minutes early when walking through the door.
He works for Harvard, in the library, researching the authenticity of old books and looking for forgeries. He is also often loaned out to museums and the Library of Congress doing the same work.
While loaned out overseas to Cambridge to authenticate books from the 15th century, Paul came across a old worn tome, covered in runes: some Celtic, some Mayan, and even a smattering of Egyptian hieroglyphics. What caught Paul's eye with the book was the shifting script within. He thought it was a clever use of parchment and pigments. While staring at a bizarre pattern on a page, it started to shift, lines and symbols sliding around, patterns changing. Suddenly the patterns coalesced into eyes made of blue fire. They seem to narrow as it stared deeply into Paul. A mouth of blue flame formed and boomed, "Ahhh, We know you....Nilrem. We have been waiting for you We have much to teach you." Paul slamed the book shut as it chuckles......fading.
Convincing himself it was a hallucination and finishing his work, Paul returned to the states. Upon arriving back home, though, he found the tome sitting on his bed, softly chuckling. Shortly therafter, Paul met and joined forces with B.A.D.A.S.S. It was while working with them that he learned one very important fact about the grimoire: it was a spellbook created by none other than Merlin himself, only able to be opened by one of his decendants.
