In the early part of the twentieth century, Arizona experienced an oil boom across different parts of the state. That fever eventually made its way to the area now considered the western suburbs of Phoenix, with an oil company building a well to mine for oil. On the land surrounding it, the workers built homesteads and constructed a small church. However, it was soon realized that the oil that was in abundance in California and Texas was not as prevalent in Arizona. After only a few years, the well was shut down and the people moved away. Thanks to the mining, the land wasn’t considered safe or profitable for much of anything and sat unused for decades to come.
About two years ago, though, the land was bought up by ReGenesis; at that point, a start-up company that was growing fast. Many believed that they were going to put one of their warehouses or co-op farms on the land. Then suddenly, around the time that Phoenix Force debuted, the concept of the land seemed to change. Digging machines came in, presumably to do something with the caverns that were believed to hold oil. Then, the next thing people knew, the work was done. The dilapidated homes had been torn down. Fencing was put up with signs saying private property around the five square miles that was formerly occupied by the oil company, but the only thing that appeared to have remained was the old church. Rumors spread that the government had installed an underground missile silo. Others thought that aliens had landed there. Those that had dared to trespass claimed to have seen blinding lights before passing out and finding themselves in their homes again.
What had really happened was that the church was converted into a headquarters for the new superhero team. While the front doors are protected by retinal scanners triggered by the bio-signatures of the team, there is also access to the base by an underground hyper-loop system connecting it and the team’s hangar to the other ReGenesis facilities. It is also surrounded by non-lethal security systems (tasers and flash cannons), as well as invisible force field generators that can be activated in case of attack. It is managed by an AI named Pelé, who also monitors news and police bans in order to dispatch the team, and maintained via DRDs (Diminutive Resource Droids). The walls were reinforced and the interior was outfitted with state-of-the-art computers, a functional laboratory, and an extensive library. It also has a fully-stocked kitchen and dining area, along with a bunk room for temporary housing if needed.
Three miles south of the church resides an underground hangar, with a launch port ceiling concealed beneath what appears to be regular soil. Said hangar is the home of the team’s jump-ship, capable of reaching speeds up to 1000 MPH and sub-orbital spaceflight. The ship is also capable of transporting a four-person all-terrain vehicle. The hangar is connected via the hyper-loop, as well as a secured entrance from the surface. Via said loop, the team can commute from base to hangar in less than a minute.
The base, hangar, and vehicles are all powered by ReGenesis cold-fusion generators.
