Inspiration - Hammett grew up on hard-boiled detective novels and hot dogs.
Stuck In A Motif - Hammett would be just as effective (if not moreso) as a crimefighter without his costume, but is dead set in this identity.

Background - Hammett loved hard-boiled dectective novels growing up. His parents had also given him his best friend, a Dachshund (because of their last name) named Frank. When Hammett was twelve, though, Frank was found murdered in their yard. Dedicating himself to finding his killer, Hammett launched an investigation, using the skills he had learned from his books. He never learned who had killed his dog, however, but decided to become a crimefighter as an adult to make sure that no one would ever be hurt again.
